Duties
This office is responsible for the assessment of real estate for property tax purposes. However, the Assessor is not responsible for any special assessments,  special assessments are a function of the Office of the Auditor

Each property's share of the property tax is based on the Assessor's value. Although, the work of the assessor does not determine the total amount of taxes paid, it does affect the uniform distribution of the property tax burden.

North Dakota law requires the assessor's office to value property according to its value on February 1st of each year. The State of North Dakota monitors the Assessor's valuations through a sales ratio system to determine if the city is keeping their property valuations at market value.

Property information can be found at http://property.westfargond.gov.
