   Special Assessments Minimize

Special assessments are a method that a city uses to pay for infrastructure improvements.  These are different than property taxes.  These assessments help divide the cost of projects among the properties that would benefit, such as water main replacements, flood protection, sidewalks, paving and storm sewers to name a few of the projects.  The authority and rules for using special assessments as a method of financing is established in  Chapter 40 of the North Dakota Century Code (sections 22-27).  Not all city projects are paid for in this manner but many do utilitze citizen participation.

The City of West Fargo has special assessments information available on it's website.  Please take note of the special instructions about how to enter the address. That page will also link you to the Cass County Auditor's page that shows tax information for a particular property.

If you have questions about the Sheyenne Diversion Maintenance Fee, some Eagle Run specials, and drain specials, please call Southeast Cass at (701) 298-2381.  For special assessment balance inquiries, such as:  parcel number, front footage, square footage, uncertified balance remaining, work complete, pending approval, work in progress (estimated), future proposed specials (estimated) and payoffs for a specific date,  please use the email form below.

You will need to provide your contact information, the address of the property that you are inquiring about and which of the aforementioned items you are inquiring about.  If you are inquiring for a payoff balance a specific date is required.
