Winter Restrictions and Prohibitions

It is unlawful to deposit any snow upon any City street or public right-of-way.

The property owner is responsible for removing snow and ice from the sidewalks adjacent to their property within 48 hours.  If snow and ice are not removed, it may be removed by authorized City personnel and the costs for snow removal, along with an administrative fee, will be assessed against the property.

Stranded vehicles or illegally parked vehicles, which are interfering with winter operations, will be impounded.

The following restrictions will be followed if property damage occurs due to the city plow or by the weight of the snow that is thrown:

Vehicle Damage -- Owner must report immediately with police department completing a crash report

Property/Sod -- The City will level damaged area, replace top soil if needed, seed and hydromulch.  The City will not be responsible for private contractors or privately acquired materials.

Mailboxes -- If City equipment hits a mailbox, the City will provide labor and up to $75 in materials.

The City will not be responsible for any sprinkler systems, basketball hoops, hockey goals or any other types of displays.

West Fargo Snow Removal Level of Service

It is the expectation that the City keep all roadways sufficiently passable during and following a winter storm.

Each storm is unique and the measures utilized to clear the roads take into consideration air and pavement temperatures, wind characteristics, precipitation rates and types, duration and traffic activity.  Availability of equipment, personnel and materials are also key factors that affect the effectiveness of snow and ice control efforts.  Consequently, roadways are prioritized with Snow Emergency Routes being given the highest priority.i
