Severe Summer Weather Awareness Week: Tips for severe thunderstorm safety

Monday - Severe Thunderstorms

1. Stay away from windows! - Hail and debris caught in high-speed winds can break windows and cause you harm.
2. Seek shelter! - If you are outside, seek a sturdy permanent structure for shelter. If you are in a mobile home, go to your designated storm shelter. Campers, tents, vehicles and mobile homes are often not sturdy enough to protect against large hail, falling trees, or other impact the storm may cause.
3. Stay tuned! - Severe thunderstorms have potential to easily produce tornadoes, so keep a storm radio, television, or your cellphone close so you can stay updated. It is easy to sign up for important alerts via CodeRED here:
4. Have a plan! - It is important to have a plan in place BEFORE bad weather comes. Take the time to make a plan with your family and know your workplace safety plans too!
