Sheyenne Street will close to all traffic from north of 32nd Avenue W. to south of 26th Avenue W. beginning the night of Tuesday, Aug. 14. This closure is expected to last eight weeks. The closure will allow construction crews to safely and efficiently complete pavement removals, utility replacements, and concrete paving in this stretch of the project.
Northbound residents are encouraged to detour west at 32nd Avenue W. to travel north on Ninth Street W. to 26th Avenue W. to continue north on Sheyenne Street. Alternatively, northbound residents can use Veterans Boulevard to travel to their destinations north of I-94. Southbound residents are encouraged to detour west at 26th Avenue W. to Ninth Street W. and then travel south to 32nd Avenue W. to connect with Sheyenne Street. Please see the attached map for more detour information.
To prepare for the closure and detour via Ninth Street W. crews have installed temporary traffic signals at the intersection of 32nd Avenue W. and Ninth Street W. that will be activated before the closure. The portable traffic signals installed at the Sheyenne Street and 32nd Avenue W. intersection will also be adjusted for the change in traffic pattern. Detour signage will be installed in the closure and detour area Sunday, Aug. 12, to prepare motorists for the change.
Motorists in this area should plan for delays and congestion during morning and evening commutes and adjust their travel plans accordingly. Motorists should also use care while on the Ninth Street W. detour to ensure they travel safely through the semi-residential area. Always use the ‘S’ check when traveling in and around construction areas – check your speed, space and stress. This closure is part of the City of West Fargo’s Sheyenne Street reconstruction project that will improve traffic safety and efficiency on a stretch of Sheyenne Street from 13th Avenue W. to 40th Avenue W. This segment of the project from Beaton Drive to 32nd Avenue W. will increase roadway capacity from one lane in each direction to three lanes in each direction. It also includes the installation of traffic signals at major intersections, utility improvements and the addition of a pedestrian underpass at the intersection of Sheyenne Street and 32nd Avenue W. The two-year project began in 2018 and coincides with the North Dakota Department of Transportation’s I-94 interchange reconfiguration project.
