Paving closure 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 24, on Sheyenne Street from Beaton Dr to 13th Ave W

Sheyenne Street Pavingn Closure Aug. 24

  • Closure from 13th Avenue W. to Beaton Drive scheduled for 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 24
  • 17th Avenue W. intersection also closed during this time
  • Residents with driveway access on the west side of Sheyenne Street can still use temporary access road along Sheyenne Street
  • Beaver Creek residents will have a temporary access road for the paving

Sheyenne Street from 13th Avenue W. to Beaton Drive will close from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 24, for paving operations of the new southbound lanes, curbs and sidewalk tie-ins in that section of road. This closure is necessary due to the limited space on this stretch of the road for the paving equipment to operate, trucks to haul material and personnel safety. Residents should utilize Veterans Boulevard/Ninth Street E. during the closure to travel north and south.

Sheyenne Street Pavingn Closure Aug. 24

During the closure, residents with driveway access on the west side of the road north of 19th Avenue W. will be able to utilize the temporary access road in place for the project. Residents in the Beaver Creek development will be able to enter and exit Sheyenne Street from a temporary access road on the south side of the development. No other traffic will be allowed through. This is the first paving closure for the new southbound lanes on Sheyenne Street between 13th Avenue W. and Beaton Drive.

The east side of the 17th Avenue W. and Sheyenne Street intersection will reopen immediately following Friday’s paving. The 19th Avenue W. intersection is included in this paving operation and is expected to reopen around Friday, Aug. 31, depending on weather conditions.

In connection with these paving operations, the contractor will begin sawing operations after paving, which may last through the night until early the morning of Saturday, Aug. 25. The sawing allows crews to control the cracking of the pavement and avoid premature failure of the road. The timing is critical and cannot be delayed once paving is completed. This will result in an increase in construction noise that lasts outside of normal construction hours.

Sheyenne Street is currently closed to all traffic from 32nd Avenue W. to 26th Avenue W. The closure will allow construction crews to safely and efficiently complete pavement removals, utility replacements, and concrete paving in this stretch of the project. The closure is expected last an additional seven weeks, depending on any weather or unforeseen construction delays.

This closure is part of the City of West Fargo’s Sheyenne Street reconstruction project that will improve traffic safety and efficiency on a stretch of Sheyenne Street from 13th Avenue W. to 40th Avenue W. This segment of the project from Beaton Drive to 32nd Avenue W. will increase roadway capacity from one lane in each direction to three lanes in each direction. It also includes the installation of traffic signals at major intersections, utility improvements and the addition of a pedestrian underpass at the intersection of Sheyenne Street and 32nd Avenue W. The two-year project began in 2018 and coincides with the North Dakota Department of Transportation’s I-94 interchange reconfiguration project.

Motorists in this area should plan for delays and congestion during morning and evening commutes and adjust their travel plans accordingly. Motorists should also use care while on the Ninth Street W. detour to ensure they travel safely through the semi-residential area. Always use the ‘S’ check when traveling in and around construction areas – check your speed, space and stress.
