Where do I pay a Parking Ticket?
Answer
You may pay for a parking ticket issued by a police officer in West Fargo by either coming to the West Fargo Police Department and pay the ticket in person between the hours of 7:00 am to 10:00 pm. The police department is located at 800 4th Avenue East. Or mailing the payment in to the Police Department at : West Fargo Police Department, 800 4th Avenue East, Ste 2, West Fargo ND 58078. The payment can be made in cash, check or money order form.

Does my dog/cat need to be licensed in West Fargo?
Answer
Yes, according to ordinance 11-0102 all dogs and cats over the age of twelve (12) weeks must be licensed by the West Fargo Police Department. In order to license your pet, please bring proof that the rabies vaccination has been given and is current to the West Fargo Police Department. A clerk will then issue the license after verifying that the proper vaccination has been given. The charge is $6.00 per animal that is spayed/neutered and $10.00 for those who are not (we accept cash, check and money order). The license will be good until December 31st of that year and will need to be renewed each year.

Can I get a copy of a police report or accident report?
Answer
Yes. Police reports and accident reports can be requested from the Police Department. Accident reports are $7.00 per report. Police reports cost $.25 per page but are free to the victims of the crime report. Payment for the reports may be made in cash, check or money order form.

What are the parking rules in West Fargo?
Answer
The City of West Fargo has numerous rules of how, when and where an automobile can park on city streets. For instance, a vehicle can't remain on a city street for a period of time more than 72 hours and it must have current registration while parked on a city street. For more information on parking refer to West Fargo's city ordinance 13-16.

Can we ask for special parking for certain events?
Answer
Yes, you will need to contact the Police Department (433-5500) and ask to speak to an officer. Be prepared to provide the officer with the following information: your name, address, date, time and type of event. The officer will consider the request and make a determination if the special parking is warranted.

Can I ride my ATV/snowmobile in town?
Answer
An ATV cannot be ridden in the city of West Fargo unless it is being used on private property for the use of moving snow, lawn work or general house repairs. Snowmobiles cannot be ridden in the city for any reason except for loading and unloading onto a trailer. For further information, please refer to Ordinance 13-20. If you are caught riding a vehicle that is not permitted within the city limits the fine is $20.00.

How do I make a police report?
Answer
Police reports can be made at anytime, on any day. Please contact the Police Department at 701-433-5500 or stop in at 800 4th Avenue East. An officer will be assigned to your issue.

How do I file a complaint about an officer?
Answer
If you have an issue with an officer, please come to the Police Department and inform a desk clerk of your intention to file a complaint or call 701-433-5500 to have a complaint form sent to you. A complaint form will have to be filled out in order to register your complaint. Once the paperwork is filled out and turned in, a supervisor will look into the complaint. You will be contacted by the supervisor regarding the issue.

Can I shoot a bow, BB gun or soft air pistol within the city limits?
Answer
No, it is unlawful for any person to discharge a firearm or dangerous weapon within the city limits. For further information please refer to ordinance 12-0306. If you are found guilty of firing a weapon within city limits you will be charged with a Class B Misdemeanor/$250.00 fine.

Can I light off fireworks in town?
Answer
No. Fireworks are not to be lit off at anytime in the city of West Fargo. This includes holidays, such as, the Fourth of July. For more information, please refer to City Ordinance 12-0310. If you are found lighting off fireworks within the city limits, you can be charged with a Class B Misdemeanor ($150.00 fine).

There is a dog running through my yard, isn't there a leash law?
Answer
Yes, there is a leash law. According to ordinance 11-0201, "No person who is owner or keeper of any animal shall allow any animal to run at large in the city." To report an animal at large, please contact the Police Department at 701-433-5500. They will require the following information: the address, type of animal, and when you saw the animal last.

My child is acting unruly; can the police department be called?
Answer
Yes, this is a very common issue and you are not alone. If you believe your child is being unruly, you do have an option of having an officer come to your house and survey the situation. If you and the officer believe that the child is unruly, the officer may transport your child to Attendant Care where he/she will be held until the situation is resolved.

Is there a curfew in West Fargo?
Answer
Yes, the curfew is from 11:00 pm until 6:00 am. This is the time when a person under the age of 16 cannot be out wandering the city. This ordinance does not include a child who is returning home from certain events. If they have been babysitting or if they are with someone of the age of 18 and they are approved by a parent. For further information regarding the curfew, please see ordinance 12-09. If caught out during the hours of the curfew, the child will be brought either to the Police Department, home or attendant care.

What time does a noise ordinance go into effect?
Answer
Technically, a noise ordinance is always in effect within the City Limits: no noise louder than 50 decibels in any residential neighborhood from 11:00 pm to 7:00 am and 55 decibels during any other time of the day. If you feel a neighbor is unlawfully noisy, you can contact the West Fargo Police Department and an officer will be dispatched. If the officer feels that the noise is unwarranted, the officer will ask the responsible party to cease creating the noise. For further information, refer to city ordinance 12-0801.

My neighbor is pushing his snow into the street, can he do this?
Answer
It is unlawful for any citizen of West Fargo to push or blow snow into the streets. If you see your neighbor doing this, please contact the Police Department at 701-433-5500.

What should I do if I believe someone may be using/selling drugs at their house?
Answer
If you believe someone is involved in drug use or trafficking, try to gather as much information as possible, including: license plates, times, dates, descriptions of people, along with any other information that you think may be useful to the police in their investigation. Do not put yourself at risk to obtain this information. After this information has been obtained, contact the West Fargo Police Department and an officer will meet with you regarding starting an investigation.
