The Chief’s Medal is awarded to employees of the West Fargo Police Department who distinguish themselves with an act which significantly benefits the department or community. Individuals demonstrating outstanding leadership, professionalism, community service, or any act deemed by the Chief of Police to have significantly benefited the department towards the accomplishment of its mission and goals are considered for this award.

During the presentation Chief Arland Rasmussen stated, “Hired in April of 1999 Officer Rhonda Jorgenson has become one of the most well known officers within our community through her work to establish and her continued coordination of the Citizens Police Academy. The department held the first Academy class in September 2000 and currently is conducting its twenty first session.  She continues to assist with numerous other events within the police department as well as events in the community.  An example of a recent community event was the overwhelming successful spaghetti feed on behalf of Deputy Sheriff Chris Dewey.”

Rasmussen said, “Officer Jorgenson receives the Chief’s Medal because she is an officer who has distinguished herself through acts which significantly benefit the department and the community.  She has demonstrated leadership by taking on extra duties, professionalism in her work ethic and community service through the Citizen’s Police Academy and the many other events she helps with.”

Originating in 2008, the Chief’s Medal was first given to Officer Brad Berg for his work as an investigator with the department. The award has also been presented to Officer Eric Wiinanen in 2009 for his involvement with the Drug Abuse Resistance Education DARE program conducted in the West Fargo Public Schools.
