NEW CITY OF WEST FARGO WASTE WATER MANAGEMENT

 

SEWER CONNECTION TO FARGO

 

Goal: Connection/pumping to Fargo in by fall 2018

Timeline: 

    - June 5: City Commission approved contract; Public Works also presented schedule and rough estimated costs

    - Preliminary Design/Options Exploration: June-August 201

    - Select Improvement Option: August 2017

    - Right of Way/Permitting: Sept. 2017

    - Design/Bid: March 2018

    - Construction: Spring/summer construction season 2018

 

SEWER CONNECTION TO FARGO INFRASTRUCTURE NEEDED:

 

    - Pipe and infrastructure to connect to Fargo

    - Lift station

 

 

LAGOON DECOMMISSION SCHEDULE

 

Goal: Lagoons decommissioned one year before F-M Diversion completed*

*Assumes F-M Diversion completed by 2025

Timeline:

    - Preliminary design (options/cost estimate): Fall 2017

    - Regulatory/permitting/design: 2018

    - Connected to Fargo – 2018 (start with 1.0 to 1.5 mgd)

    - Reduce stormwater inflow and infiltration: 2018-2024

    - Develop master plan for decommissioned waste stabilization pond property

    - Start decommissioning – 2019

            * Work with ND Department of Health on process; look to best practices for direction

            * Regulatory/permitting process

            * Generally takes about two years per 50 acres to decommission ponds

    - Fully decommissioned no later than 2024

 

INITIAL ESTIMATED PROJECT COSTS:

 

Capital Costs:

    - Pipe and lift station improvements: $5 to 6 million

    - Decommission lagoons: $5 million

Maintenance Costs:

    - Replace manholes to limit excess waste sent to Fargo for treatment: $1.2 million

Resident Costs:

    - Approximately $3 per thousand gallons of waste

    - Currently paying $1 per thousand gallons of waste
