City of West Fargo to begin flushing fire hydrants week of Oct. 16

The City of West Fargo public works department will begin flushing fire hydrants the week of Oct. 16, 2017. The process will take approximately two weeks, and begin south of the interstate and end on the north side. The city flushes the hydrants to clean out the city’s water main filtration system and ensure the city’s hydrant system is receiving proper water pressure. The flushing will take place between 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. each weekday.

The flushing may impact the water in homes Oct. 16-27. Before running washing machines during this time residents should ensure their water is not cloudy, which indicates the presence of minerals. Residents should also bypass their filtering systems, including water softeners and refrigerator filters. If water appears cloudy from any faucet, residents should run cold water in a bathtub until it turns clear.

For questions, please contact the public works department at (701) 433-5400 or publicworks@westfargond.gov.
