Chief Arland Rasmussen Receives Lone Eagle Award - Thursday, August 13, 2009 Chief Arland Rasmussen was presented with the North Dakota Peace Officers Association’s Lone Eagle Award Thursday night in Jamestown. Presenter was ND Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem. Rasmussen was recognized for his contribution to Law Enforcement on the local, state, regional and national level. Sharing the moment was Rasmussen’s wife Verna.
The Lone Eagle award is an honor presented annually to an active and a retired North Dakota Peace Officer, each of whom, in the eyes of their comrades, has contributed guidance, inspiration, and support throughout his career as a law enforcement official in the State of North Dakota. Retired FBI agent Herb Eckenroth, who worked in North Dakota for many years, created this award in 1979 to recognize a North Dakota Peace Officer who “…has shown incorruptible soundness or moral character and faithful adherence to ethical principles.”

Main Avenue - 2nd Street East Sanitary Work - Saturday, August 01, 2009Due to replacing the sewer main that runs under 2nd Street East, 2nd Street East will be closed from 3rd Avenue to Main Avenue. There may also be short water service disruptions during the day when replacing water mains that cross 2nd Street East. FM Metro Flood Study Team - Sunday, July 19, 2009There will be data collection between the hours of 8:00 am and 7:00 pm from July 6, 2009 until July 19, 2009 occuring in the FM Metro area. There will be survey equipment driving slowly through neighborhoods (usually a maroon Chevy Uplander with government plates). They are collecting exterior elevations and structure inventory data on behalf of the St. Paul Distirct of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The data will be solely used by the US Army Corps of Engineers to determine if there is a potential Federal Flood Project. Public Meeting-Loeden Center Alley Paving - Monday, July 06, 2009A hearing will be held at the City Commission on July 6, 2009 at 5:45 pm to decide whether to proceed with the proposed paving of the alleys in the area around the Loeden Center. The project would include paving and increasing property drainage. The decision will be to proceed with the project on a block by block basis or to not proceed with all or a portion of the project. In North Dakota, it is the law that everyone is to wear a seat belt. If a driver is under the age of 18, s/he can be pulled over for not wearing a seat belt. If the driver is 18 or over, s/he can be cited if pulled over for another reason. This campaign reinforces the importance of clicking it quick to buckle up and save lives. H1N1 VIRUS (SWINE FLU) UPDATE - Friday, May 01, 2009Information regarding the H1N1 virus (swine flu). The North Dakota Department of Health offers these recommendations for avoiding infection:
• As always, if you are sick you should say home from work or school to avoid spreading the infection to others.
• Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing. It may prevent those around you from getting sick.
• Avoid close contact with people who are coughing or otherwise appear ill.
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth. Germs are often spread when a person touches something that is contaminated with germs and then touches his or her eyes, nose, or mouth.
• Wash hands frequently.
• People experiencing cough, fever and fatigue, possibly along with diarrhea and vomiting should contact their doctor. If you have recently traveled to an area with confirmed cases, make sure your doctor knows your travel history.
• The CDC is recommending that any non-essential travel to Mexico be cancelled.

Golf Course Meeting - Wednesday, April 29, 2009There will be a public informational meeting regarding the proposed 18-hole golf course in Westport beach. This meeting will address turning over the contract for construction and operation of the golf course to the developers.The new plan is presently in the finalizing stages and at this point is unavailable but the developers and city officials will be present to provide details of the new plan and to answer any questions the public might have.

Street Cleaning - Monday, April 27, 2009Pro-Sweep will begin the street cleaning operation in the City of West Fargo on Monday, April 27, 2009. ATTENTION LANDLORDS: - Thursday, April 23, 2009The West Fargo Police Department is offering a new training program relating to Crime Free Multi-housing on April 23, 2009 from 08:00 AM to 04:00 PM at the West Fargo Police Department.
Property owners, managers and maintenance staff are invited to sign up for the free training. to receive instruction in: understanding crime prevention; conducting the application screening process; fundamentals of personal safety; fair housing standards; establishing lease and lease addendums; concept of active property management; working with local law enforcement and fire departments; and drug and gang awareness. Phase two is a basic Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) inspection of the property. Trained police personnel review the property and provide recommendations to improve safety and security for the residents. Phase three is an organized resident social. The purpose of the social is to promote a community setting, introduce residents and staff, and provide educational materials relating to crime watch and crime prevention techniques. Certificates are presented to the property owner or manager at the completion of each phase. Once all three phases have been completed a final certification is issued. The certification is good for one year. Final certification entitles the property owner or manager to free background checks on crime free housing applications, free reports relating to activities occurring on their property, free CPTED surveys, free crime free program materials, and free crime free multi-housing signs to be placed on the property.

West Fargo Police Department Promotions - Saturday, January 31, 2009Chief Arland Rasmussen announces that two police officers have received promotions effective January 1st.
Sgt. Duane Sall was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant and will oversee daily operations to include both patrol and investigations. Duane is originally from Moorhead MN having graduated from Moorhead High School and continued his education at Moorhead Tech as well as being a graduate of UND Lake Region Law Enforcement Academy, Devils Lake, ND. His past experience as a police officer includes serving with the Grafton Police Department and he has been an officer with West Fargo Police since 1992.
Effective January 1st, Officer Gerald Boyer became Sgt. Gerald Boyer. He will be primarily responsible for the night patrol shifts. Jerry is a Fargo native who graduated from Fargo South High School. He attended NDSU and is a graduate of UND Lake Region Law Enforcement Academy in Devils Lake, ND. Jerry had prior law enforcement experience before joining West Fargo Police Department in 2005. Prior to joining West Fargo he worked for the Logan County Sheriff’s Office in Napoleon, ND, the LaMoure Co. Sheriff’s Office, Lamoure ND, was a Drug Task Force Officer in Wahpeton, ND and spent several years as a Police Officer for NDSU.
Both officers have assumed their positions and were awarded their rank/insignia by West Fargo Police Commissioner Bryan Schulz and Chief Arland H. Rasmussen at a department meeting held January 6th, 2009.

The positions available are: Mayor, two City Commissioner seats, three Park Board seats, and Judge. In order to be considered for an elected post you must circulate the Petition/Certicate of Nomination (requires a minimum of 137 and a maximum of 300 signatures). A completed Statement of Interests application will also need to be completed in order to qualify for a position. These forms are due on April 9th by 4:00 at West Fargo City Hall.

In order to be considered for an elected post you must circulate the Petition/Certicate of Nomination (requires a minimum of 137 and a maximum of 300 signatures). A completed Statement of Interests application will also need to be completed in order to qualify for a position. These forms are due on April 9th by 4:00 at West Fargo City Hall.

Open City Positions - Tuesday, February 23, 2010The June 8th, 2010 election in West Fargo has several positions open. The positions available are: Mayor, two City Commissioner seats, three Park Board seats, and Judge. In order to be considered for an elected post you must circulate the Petition/Certicate of Nomination (requires a minimum of 137 and a maximum of 300 signatures).
