The West Fargo Police Department and Fargo Police Department invite the community to the first West Fargo United event 5:30-8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6, 2019, in the L.E. Berger Elementary School outdoor field, 631 Fourth Ave. E. West Fargo. The event will feature free food, activities and giveaways to help the community interact with each other and the police departments. This event is organized through the West Fargo Police Department and Fargo Police Department’s cultural liaison programs.
“We’ve been working throughout the summer to get out in the community and make connections,” said cultural liaison officer Ryan Feltman. “We want to continue these efforts with the West Fargo United event, where we can come together, have some fun and learn about our neighbors.”
DPB, the positive rap artist who has collaborated with the Fargo Police Department, will perform at the event and interact with attendees. There will also be a dunk tank, bouncy houses, and an opportunity to take on police officers in basketball and soccer. There will also be free all-beef hot dogs, cotton candy and snow cones. Prizes will be given away throughout the night, including brand-new youth bicycles.
This free event is made possible through the generous support of Brandt Hospitality Group, United Way of Cass Clay, Costco Wholesale, Cash Wise Foods, Hornbacher’s, Pepsi and Walmart.
The goal of the West Fargo Police Department’s cultural liaison program, which began in January 2019, is to break down barriers that exist between any cultural communities in West Fargo and the West Fargo Police Department. Since the program’s launch, Officer Feltman has held meetings with a number of New American organizations, coordinated free swimming lessons for more than 80 children, hosted the AROUND THE WORLD event to showcase cultures presents throughout the metro and helped increase turnout at the department’s annual Night to Unite event.
“West Fargo United will be another great opportunity to get residents who might not often see each other an opportunity to interact and allow the community to see the West Fargo Police Department as a trusted resource,” said Feltman.
