[ARCHIVED] 10:30 a.m. May 22, 2020-West Fargo Public Library takes “Ask a Genealogist” program virtual

West Fargo Public Library Staff Genealogist Jackie Marler is excited to take her popular "Ask a Genealogist" program virtual. Beginning Saturday, May 23, Marler will be available by appointment from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturdays to assist patrons with their family history research.

Usually in-person, the "Ask a Genealogist" program allows patrons to sit down with an experienced genealogist to discuss topics such as how to use the West Fargo Public Library resources, where to begin when researching family history, tips and tricks for overcoming research obstacles and other questions patrons may have about genealogy.

While the library is closed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, these meetings will take place via video conference. Those interested in booking an appointment can sign up at

Whether or not they require her assistance, Marler encourages patrons to look into their family history to learn about the past and also gain hope for the future.

"We are going through a tough time right now," Marler said. "Through my research I know that my ancestors may have gone through similar situations, but somehow my family survived."

Marler, who has been a genealogist since 1982, also said genealogy can be a great way to pass the time.

"We are really excited to be able to offer this as a virtual program," Kirsten Henagin, library adult services manager, said. "We are lucky to have an experienced genealogist on staff ready and willing to help those interested in their family histories."
