Due to national and state recommendations to limit gathering sizes to minimize the spread of coronavirus, West Fargo’s July Cruise Night (Thursday, July 16, 2020) and Night to Unite (Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2020) are canceled.
Currently, the North Dakota Smart Restart large gathering guidelines strongly recommends limiting gathering sizes to 500 attendees and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention notes that overall number of attendees and density of attendees are critical factors for determining the safety of an event.
Typically, Cruise Nights and Night to Unite see thousands of attendees where crowds often become dense. Because the intention of both events is to provide a free, community event to the public, limiting attendance and proximity to attendees is not possible.
“Canceling Night to Unite was a very difficult decision and many factors were considered to include the safety of the public, the donations needed, time to plan and the safety of our staff,” said Interim Chief Jerry Boyer.
The West Fargo Police Department urges everyone to continue to celebrate Night to Unite with block parties in their neighborhoods, if they feel comfortable. The police department will send officers to the block party at the request of the organizer to interact in small groups throughout the evening of Aug. 4. More information on how to register your block party will be released at a later date.
Event organizers will continue to monitor the recommendations to make determinations for each of the remaining Cruise Nights. Continue to stay updated on the West Fargo Cruise Night Facebook page.
