The City of West Fargo invites the community to celebrate the holiday season with letters to Santa Claus, Cocoa with a Cop, arts social and tree lighting and children’s activities. All activities are free and open to the public.

“We will be continuing our tradition of welcoming the community into City Hall with a great lineup of events,” said Mayor Rich Mattern. “As a city, we have so many things to be thankful for, so we invite the community to join us as we celebrate family, friends and our successes.”

The holiday events will begin Tuesday, Nov. 14, with Cocoa with a Cop from 6:30-9 p.m. The West Fargo Police Department invites all ages to join members of the department for a meet and greet, tour of the department and patrol cars, and enjoy hot cocoa and treats.

“We hold Coffee with a Cop events each month, but we wanted to do something special this month and invite the community into the department to learn more about us and the officers protecting and serving the community every day,” said West Fargo Police Chief Heith Janke.

An art social will be held in the Grand Foyer of City Hall 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 16, and celebrate the work of local veterans. This event will also feature wine samples, meat and cheese pairings, and live music from local musicians Max Johnk and Eric Martens.

“As a North Dakota Cares community, we recognize the important role our veterans play in the community,” said Mayor Mattern. “We are honored to provide them with an opportunity to show off their amazing talent and allow the community to show their support.

Geared toward families and children, the city will cap off the holiday events with the official holiday tree lighting and children’s crafts event from 5-6:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 30. The event will feature an official lighting of the City Hall tree, decorated by first-graders from L.E. Berger and Brooks Harbor Elementary Schools, visit from Santa Claus, variety of crafts, cookie decorating, stories and treats. There will also be guest appearances made by Miss North Dakota Lizzie Jensen, Miss West Fargo Grace Ward, Miss West Fargo Outstanding Teen Faith Beauclair, and a special appearance by Kid Bobble, the Fargo Force’s mascot. The first 200 attendees at this event will also receive a free hot dog and chips.

The events will be held in West Fargo City Hall’s Grand Foyer and East Training Room. Attendees are encouraged to park in the building’s north and south parking lots and use entrances on the east side of the building. A special mailbox is also set up in the Grand Foyer that residents can drop off a letter for Santa Claus through Dec. 7, 2017. Letters should be in an envelope addressed to Santa with a return address.

A number of businesses and organizations are sponsoring these events, including the West Fargo Tourist and Visitors Committee, Cash Wise Foods and Liquors, BC Contracting, Bell Bank, Brewtus’ Brickhouse, Costco Wholesale, Family Fare, Monsanto, Moore Engineering, Inc., Old Dutch Foods, Wal-Mart, West Fargo Public Library, and the West Fargo VFW.
