[ARCHIVED] Scammer posing as West Fargo Fire Department collecting donations

West Fargo Fire Department Patch

The West Fargo Fire Department would like to warn the community about a phone scam using the West Fargo Fire Department’s name. An individual, presumed to be a scammer, has been calling metro residents posing as a fire department representative and soliciting donations. At this time, the West Fargo Fire Department and West Fargo Police Department are not involved in any phone-based fundraising efforts.

If you do receive a suspicious call, the Federal Trade Commission recommends finding out the caller’s name and the name of the organization they represent. You can also request information about the organization be mailed to you. Additionally, experts recommend being wary of organizations with names similar to recognized groups, offer to come to your residence to pick up the donation or request financial information over the phone.

And remember to always report suspicious calls to the local law enforcement agencies. West Fargo residents can contact the West Fargo Police Department.
