The City of West Fargo water division will begin a hydrant flushing project Tuesday, May 11, 2021. Crews will flush hydrants starting at the south City of West Fargo boundary and move north. Work will last for 14 days. Flushing will begin at 7:30 a.m. and end around 4 p.m. There will be minimal impacts on traffic during this project.
Residents may notice water discoloration during the flushing. In that case, they should run cold water through their faucets until the water runs clear. If water clarity does not improve, please contact Public Works at (701) 515-5400.
Hydrant flushing cleans out large sections of the water system to make sure hydrants and water distribution is working. The work goes in a south to north schedule to ensure the entire system is clear.
Residents should also take this opportunity to sign up for the City's Adopt-A-Hydrant program. This allows residents to claim a hydrant for shoveling out after snowfalls. Hydrants that are clear in the winter save valuable minutes for crews responding to fires. To Adopt-A-Hydrant, sign up here.
