[ARCHIVED] Arson K9 Mika has earned her annual accelerant detection certification

K9 Mika

The West Fargo Fire Department's Arson K9 Mika has earned her annual accelerant detection certification through Maine Specialty Dogs. Every year she gets recertified to continue serving the public by sniffing fire scenes for accelerants and by her outreach services.

Due to the coronavirus, K9 Mika and Handler John Neeb recertified with a national trainer located in Maine through the use of virtual technology. Under normal circumstances, they would have joined arson dog teams from across North America to train and certify in person.

K9 Mika ran through multiple drills, including scent discrimination and room sniffs for accelerant evidence during the recertification. Since August 2020, both Neeb and Mika responded to 32 calls.
