[ARCHIVED] West Fargo Police revise Community Service Officer position

PD News Release Template

The West Fargo Police Department is taking an innovative approach to developing future officers by launching a new Community Service Officer position. Formerly a full-time, permanent role, the Community Service Officer is now a part-time, temporary position for students enrolled in a law enforcement or criminal justice program.

The Community Service Officer will enforce parking and animal ordinances, assist sworn and civilian staff with records and reporting tasks and respond to vehicle unlocks and lost bicycle calls. This position will also assist the Community Outreach Programs and Services Unit during community engagement events.

“Just like other industries, the law enforcement profession is experiencing a shortage of qualified candidates for our positions,” said Chief of Police Denis Otterness. “Our goal is to give these students real-world experience as a member of the West Fargo Police Department so they can fulfill their career goals, whether it’s with the West Fargo Police Department or another agency.”

For more information or to apply, visit the City of West Fargo’s application site. The closing date for this position is Friday, June 18, 2021.
