At approximately 2:54 a.m. Thursday, April 27, the West Fargo Police Department attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation in the 300 block of 4th Avenue E.

After the officer exited the patrol vehicle, the suspect vehicle fled southbound and turned westbound on 7th Avenue E. with officers in pursuit. The pursuit entered Sheyenne Street northbound where a successful pursuit intervention technique (PIT) was executed in 200 block of Sheyenne Street.

The suspect vehicle came to a stop and then proceeded to intentionally strike a patrol vehicle, directed at the driver’s side door. Officers ordered the driver of the suspect vehicle to exit in which he complied. There were no injuries to the suspect or officers involved.

David Bradley Baker, a 33-year-old male from Gardendale, Alabama, was arrested on charges of felony fleeing in a motor vehicle, possession of methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine paraphernalia, outstanding felony warrant, attempted assault on a peace officer, driving under the influence and driving under suspension.

A PIT is a controlled maneuver that is a safe and effective way to end pursuits when the suspect vehicle is fleeing law enforcement. West Fargo Police Department officers recently conducted PIT maneuver training as another tool to safely end pursuits in order to protect the greater community.
