West Fargo’s road construction season will kick off Monday, April 23, as crews begin phase 1 work to finish the Ninth Street East and 13th Avenue East intersection project. During this phase, the east side of Ninth Street East from 14th Avenue East to Seventh Avenue East will be closed and traffic will be diverted to one driving lane in each direction on the west side of the street.
During phase 2, the west side of Ninth Street East from 14th Avenue East to Meyer Boulevard will be closed and traffic will be diverted to one driving lane in each direction on the east side of the street. During the final phase, the east and west side of Ninth Street East will be open to traffic and crews will work in the center of the street to complete median and turn lane construction.
This project kicked off in 2017 to reconstruct and widen the 13th Avenue East and Ninth Street East intersection to accommodate dual left turn lanes in all directions, update utilities and add a northbound through lane from 13th Avenue East to Seventh Avenue East.
The Sheyenne Street major reconstruction project also kicks off April 23 in segment 1, 13th Avenue to Beaton Drive, with crews beginning asphalt work and installing temporary traffic signals at 13th Avenue. The following week crews will begin construction on segment 2, Beaton Drive to 32nd Avenue, starting at the Sheyenne River and moving south. Roads will be open to one driving lane in both directions during construction.
The two-year Sheyenne Street corridor reconstruction project will ease congestion and safety concerns in West Fargo by adding lanes to Sheyenne Street from 13th to 40th Avenues and reconstructing the I-94 Sheyenne Street interchange. The City of West Fargo is overseeing the project from 13th Avenue to 40th Avenue and the North Dakota Department of Transportation (ND DOT) is overseeing the interchange. Segment 3, 32nd Avenue to 40th Avenue, will be completed in 2019.
Work is scheduled to begin the week of April 30 to reconstruct 13th Avenue from 45th Street in Fargo to 12th Avenue East in West Fargo. During this project 13th Avenue will remain open with one driving lane and one turning lane in each direction. Business driveways will remain open or accessible by alternative routes while cross-street intersections will have intermittent closures during work. The project is expected to be completed by August 2018 in four phases: median removal, south side construction, north side construction and center turn lane and median construction.
Congestion and delays are likely during morning and evening commute times in all construction zones. Residents are encouraged to identify alternative routes or travel times to help ease congestion. Those who do have to travel during peak traffic times should anticipate their trips to take additional time.
