The West Fargo Police Department, Fargo Cass Public Health and Mayors' Blue Ribbon Commission on Addiction, a metro area community coalition, will host a drug take back event 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 21, in the West Fargo Police Department’s east parking lot. This event is the final in a series of Take Back events designed to give the community an opportunity to safely dispose of unused, unwanted prescription or over-the-counter medication.
The event is sponsored by a grant from the North Dakota Department of Human Services and will accept unused or expired prescriptions and over-the-counter medications, including:
Residents are encouraged to ask their pharmacists where to safely dispose of sharps (syringes, lancets), thermometers, glass, home-based care or durable medical equipment supplies, and pharmacy inventory. These cannot be accepted at the event.
Safely disposing of drugs at designated take back locations and events is part of the Lock. Monitor. Take Back. campaign. This program is an evidence-based prevention effort with the primary goal of reducing access to prescriptions drugs, especially opioids, by encouraging members of the community to be safe with their medications.
If you are unable to attend this event, disposal containers are also available in the lobby of the West Fargo Police Department (800 Fourth Ave. E.) and the Thrifty White Drug in Family Fare on 13th Avenue in West Fargo. For more information on Lock.
