Thursday evening, August 9, crews will change access for north to south travel on Sheyenne Street under the Interstate 94 (I-94) bridges. From Thursday at 8 p.m. until Friday at 6 a.m., Sheyenne Street will be closed to all traffic underneath the I-94 bridges for one evening to safely complete bridge work. Crews will be setting the new 95 foot concrete bridge beams for the westbound I-94 bridge across Sheyenne Street. By the morning rush hour on Friday, both directions of Sheyenne Street underneath the I-94 bridges will be open to drivers and current work zone traffic patterns will resume.

During the overnight work, access to travel on/off I-94 and on/off Sheyenne Street will remain for certain directions of travel surrounding the interchange:

• Exiting westbound I-94 traffic – only can travel north on Sheyenne Street
• Exiting eastbound I-94 traffic – only can travel south on Sheyenne Street
• Northbound Sheyenne Street traffic – only can use eastbound I-94 ramp
• Southbound Sheyenne Street traffic – only can use westbound I-94 ramp

Access to Sheyenne Street during the night closure will be maintained by the following routes:

• Northbound access will be detoured at 32nd Avenue E to Veterans Blvd to 13th Avenue E to Sheyenne Street
• Southbound access will be detoured at 13th Avenue E to Veterans Blvd to 32nd Avenue E to Sheyenne Street

One of the easiest choices motorists can make as a driver when you enter a work zone is to slow down. Motorists are encouraged to eliminate distractions and pay attention to traffic changes throughout this dynamic work zone.

CURRENT ACTIVITY –
Through the interchange project limits, crews are working on I-94 westbound bridge reconstruction, a new lift station, installing underground utilities, retaining wall in the northeast quadrant of 32nd Street South and Sheyenne Street and embankment areas for new and widened Sheyenne Street roadways. In July, crews opened access to the one of the new I-94 and Sheyenne Street interchange ramps being constructed over the two-year project to drivers. The northwest ramp connection, near the future grocery store site, takes motorist wishing to travel westbound on I-94 to the interstate. Motorists enter the on-ramp at the same ramp access point as the old northwest ramp and then use a temporary asphalt connection to travel to the new concrete ramp until other ramp work is complete.

With this new northwest ramp in use, crews will begin removing the old on-ramp to allow for room to build the new loop ramp and additional ramp connection in this quadrant. The new ramp configuration is called a modified single point urban interchange, which will move double lanes of traffic through one stoplight in the middle of the interchange when completed in 2019. Two new loop ramps and 4 additional ramps will be built throughout the project work.
