West Fargo Police Department K9 Officer Disco Day Proclamation


K9 DiscoWHEREAS, Disco started his years of service for the City of West Fargo when he was selected as the city’s first K9 officer in March 2011 and partnered with then Officer Pete Nielsen; and            

WHEREAS, Disco has been deployed more than 1,000 times during his career and holds the record for identifying two of North Dakota’s largest drug seizures in history; and

WHEREAS, during Disco’s career with Sergeant Nielsen, they have stopped millions of dollars’ worth of drugs from entering the City of West Fargo and surrounding Fargo-Moorhead metro area; and

WHEREAS, Disco has remained with now Sergeant Pete Nielsen for his entire career; and

WHEREAS, Disco has been honored during his career by the North American Police Working Dog Association and United States Police Canine Association and inducted into the North Dakota Veterinarian Medical Association Hall of Fame; and

WHEREAS, in addition to the work on the street, Disco was a regular guest in schools, local events and area canine demonstrations where his leadership, friendliness and high-level of skills was admired and appreciated by all; and

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that I, Bernie Dardis, President of the West Fargo City Commission, do hereby proclaim this day, Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2018, as “Disco Day” in the City of West Fargo and gratefully recognize and honor Disco for his service to the citizens of the City of West Fargo and well-earned retirement from service.

Let this proclamation support the continued success and efforts of our West Fargo Police Department officers, both human and K9, in their continued efforts to protect and serve the citizens of West Fargo.
