[ARCHIVED] West Fargo Public Library to kick off 2019 Summer Reading Program

Summer Reading Program June 3rd-August 5th

The West Fargo Public Library is excited to launch its annual Summer Reading Program with the Summer Reading Kickoff Party 3 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 3. The all-ages party celebrates the opening of the 2019 Summer Reading Program theme - A Universe of Stories. Registration for the summer-long program opens at 3 p.m. and continues throughout the party.

Many activities will be available during the event, including West Fargo Public School's Skylab and from 3 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 7 p.m. attendees can participate in fun STEM activities through Inspire Innovation Lab. Other fun activities include model railroad trains from 3 to 8 p.m., story times with guest readers from 4 to 6:30 p.m., the Kringen Accordion Band from 5 to 6 p.m. and other activities throughout the library.

The free Summer Reading Program at the West Fargo Public Library works to encourage children to continue reading and learning all summer long, so they enter the new school year ready to learn. Reading during the summer is proven to benefit children as they return to school in the fall. Even a small amount of reading, like 15 minutes a day, is effective in stopping learning loss that can occur when children are out of school in the summer.

The Summer Reading Program’s A Universe of Stories programming will run June 3 to Aug. 5 and includes events for all ages. For children, events include weekly crafts, a STEM space camp, coding, galaxy slime, rocket launchers and much more. Adults can join in with book discussions, presentations, movies and more. Reading incentives and prizes for all ages are available for those who register. Registration is available at the kickoff party and throughout the summer at the West Fargo Public Library reference desk.
