The City of West Fargo public works department will begin flushing fire hydrants Monday, June 3, through Friday, June 14. The process begins on the south side of West Fargo and moves north. The city flushes the hydrants to ensure proper hydrant operation, clean out the city’s water main distribution system and ensure the water is fresh. The flushing will take place between 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. each weekday.
The flushing may impact the water in homes. Before running washing machines during this time residents should ensure their water is not cloudy, which indicates the presence of minerals. Residents should also bypass their filtering systems, including water softeners and refrigerator filters for a day or two following the flushing. If water appears cloudy, residents should run cold water in a bathtub until it turns clear. This activity is repeated in the fall.
