West Fargo Library closures for December 2022

The West Fargo Public Library will be closed Thursday, Dec. 23 through Monday, Dec. 26 (Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Observed.) The library will be open normal hours on Saturday, Dec. 31, but will be closed Sunday, Jan. 1 and Monday, Jan. 2, 2023 (New Years Day and Observed.)

14th Annual Mitten Tree at West Fargo Public Library

Mitten Tree Donation Drive 

The West Fargo Public Library is hosting its fourteenth annual Mitten Tree Drive this December to collect winter gear for West Fargo children. From Dec. 1 through Jan. 6, donors can drop off new or like-new child-sized mittens, gloves, sweatpants, boots, underwear or coats at the library. Handmade mittens and gloves are welcome.  Donors can hang their items on the tree in the library or drop them off at the library service desk. Read the full press release on our website.

Winter Reading Challenge for all ages on Beanstack

Winter Reading Challenge

Readers of all ages are invited to participate in this year's Winter Reading Challenge — a great way to motivate yourself and your child(ren) to keep reading during the winter months. The library will draw monthly winners from the list of registered readers, so you could win a prize just for trying. At the end of the challenge, anyone who completes the challenge will be eligible for grand prize drawings. If the readers in your family already have Beanstack accounts, you don't need to sign up again. Just log in and choose to join the Winter Reading Challenge for each person. Check it out on Beanstack.

Technology Tutoring

10 a.m. - 12 p.m. Tuesdays and Saturdays in December

Our volunteer technology tutors are available to assist with topics such as: basic computer, tablet, eReader or smartphone skills; basic internet and browser skills; setting up email or social media accounts; learning how to use apps and websites; and streaming and downloading digital media like ebooks, audiobooks and magazines. Make an appointment.

Baby Boost Storytime 

10 :30 a.m. Friday Dec. 9 and Friday, Dec. 16 at West Fargo Public Library

"Memories the Fuel a War: What's Behind the Russo-Ukrainian War?" 

2 - 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 10 at the West Fargo Public Library

This one-hour presentation explores significant events leading up to Ukraine's independence and present-day conflict including stories from contacts within the Ukrainian community and recent emigrants from embattled areas. No registration required.

Monday Matinee: Free Screening of "Nomadland" (R)

1:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 12 at the West Fargo Public Library

Monday Matinees at the West Fargo Public Library are free and open to the public, however limited seating is available. Refreshments included. "In the wake of the Great Recession, an aging woman who lost her livelihood begins a solo expedition through the western United States. Converting her van into her living space, she styles herself a contemporary nomad and forges unexpected connections along the way." Based on the book of the same name by Jessica Bruder. Rated R.  

Monday Night Readers Book Club

English Conversation Circle

6:30 - 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 13 at the West Fargo Public Library

Practice speaking English by talking with others during an English Conversation Circle event at the West Fargo Public Library. We meet the second Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. 

West Fargo Cribbage Club

6:30 - 8 p.m. Tuesdays at the West Fargo Public Library

The West Fargo Cribbage Club welcomes players of all ages and skill levels. No prior knowledge of the game is required as there are lots of opportunities for new players to learn. The club is free and open to the public. Each week, they play a 6-game round robin tournament. The West Fargo Cribbage Club will NOT meet Tuesday, Dec. 27.

Ready to Read Storytime

10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14 at the West Fargo Public Library

Ready to Read Storytime is a one-hour opportunity for 3 to 5 year olds to practice early literacy skills through reading, crafts and socialization. There is NO Ready to Read Storytime Dec. 21 or 28. Learn more about Storytimes at the library.

Job Service ND Available at the WF Library

1 - 3 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14 at the West Fargo Public Library

Job Service ND staff visit the West Fargo Library the second Wednesday of each month to offer job seeking support, training program info, unemployment assistance and more to walk-in patrons. 

Third Thursday Book Club

6:30 - 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 15 at West Fargo Public Library

This month, the Third Thursday Book Club is discussing "Ask Again, Yes" by Mary Beth Keane. Beginning Thursday, Jan. 19, the Third Thursday Book Club will meet monthly at 1:30 p.m. instead of in the evening.  Learn more about WFPL book clubs by clicking here.

Tie Dye Party for Teens (grades 6 - 12)

2:30 - 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 27 at West Fargo Public Library

Teens in grades 6 - 12 are invited to the West Fargo Public Library for a Winter Tie Dye party. The library will supply all things needed to tie dye, including 1 clothing item for each participant to dye. Teens are invited to bring 1 or 2 additional items to dye if they'd like. This event is limited to the first 15 sign-ups, so register today if you'd like to join the fun. 

Winter STEM for Kids (grades K - 5)

2:30 - 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 29 at West Fargo Public Library

Kids are invited to come practice science, technology, engineering and math skills at our fun winter-themed STEM activity stations during this Winter STEM Event. This event is free and open to the public. Activities are intended for kids in grades K - 5. No registration is required.

West Fargo Library open New Years Eve, closed Jan. 1 - 2

The library will be open normal hours on Saturday, Dec. 31, but will be closed Sunday, Jan. 1 and Monday, Jan. 2, 2023 (New Years Day and Observed.)
