Change is in the air!

Changes galore are taking place at your library:  the way that DVDs are organized, the technology, and the library director.  Yes, get ready for a change of library director!  After more than 13 years with West Fargo’s library, it’s time for me to retire as of December 1.

During those 13 years, I’ve had the privilege of working with a wonderful, inspiring staff.  Together, we’ve accomplished so much!  From 2006 through 2018, circulation rose from 77,806 to 152,052 and attendance at programs mushroomed from 918 to 14,943.  New services have been added, including a website, wi-fi access for patrons, e-resources, and much more! I’m sure that, in light of the strong and dedicated staff, the West Fargo library will continue to thrive in years to come.

I’m also grateful for the support and encouragement I’ve received from library boards – past and present; the Friends of the West Fargo Public Library; our many dedicated library volunteers; and from you, our patrons!

It’s a pleasure to see one of our current librarians, Carissa Hansen, assume the directorship, knowing that under her leadership, the library will continue to grow and provide the outstanding service this community deserves!

Again, thank you.

Sandra Hannahs
Outgoing Library Director

Change is in the air!  Join the WFPL staff as we celebrate and wish Sandra Hannahs the best of luck on her well-deserved retirement.  And, wait, there’s more!  We also plan to welcome our newly appointed Library Director, Carissa Hansen, as she steps up to take over the Library’s leadership reins.  In recognition of both women’s achievements, WFPL will hold an Open House and reception for Sandra and Carissa on November 26 from 4 to 6 p.m.  Join us for non-alcoholic drinks and other light refreshments.  This event is sponsored by the WFPL Friends of the Library.

Adventures in "DVD-land"

In order to make our DVD collection more “browseable”, the library has changed the way our DVDs are organized!  Our DVDs are now arranged into the following sections, rather than being divided by rating.

  • DVD
  • Junior DVD
  • TV DVD
  • Junior Nonfiction DVD
  • Nonfiction DVD

While DVDs intended specifically for viewing by children will be separated from the rest of the collection, all cardholders – both adults and children – will be allowed to check out any DVDs.  Parents are encouraged to monitor what their children are checking out.

Temporary Suspension of Interlibrary Loan

As part of the Online Dakota Information Network (ODIN), the West Fargo Public Library and other ODIN member libraries will transition to a new library management software and public access catalog in early December 2019. As part of this transition, the Library cannot accept borrower requests for items owned by other libraries throughout Nov. 15 - Dec. 31, 2019. Patrons can still check-out, place holds, and renew items owned by the West Fargo Public Library during November 2019.
Thanks for your patience!

Mitten Tree

The Mitten Tree is back!

The library will be holding a Mitten Tree again this holiday season from November 29th through December 31st. Many children in the area do not have winter weather gear and we would like to support our community as the weather grows colder. Please bring new or like new children’s gloves, hats, scarves or mittens to display on our holiday tree. At the start of the New Year the items will be donated to the West Fargo School.
